When you step onto the soft sand at Lantana, Florida's public beach, you're stepping into history. This stunning eight-acre beach with its 800 feet of shoreline was a major stop on the route of the legendary "Barefoot Mailman," who once trekked the mail from Palm Beach to Lake Worth, Miami, and Lantana by taking a series of small boats on 28 miles of his route.
Today, Lantana is still defined by water, with Lake Osborne to the west, and the Intracoastal Waterway and the Atlantic Ocean to the east. This lovely small city offers a downtown filled with boutiques and eateries, as well as public parks and beaches galore. Grab a fishing pole and head to Sportsman's Park, which features a long fishing pier, docks, boat ramps and plenty of boat parking. Right next door, you'll find Bicentennial Park, with its stunning seaward views. For even more outdoor fun, head to the Nature Preserve, where you can stroll along trails though the mangroves and keep your eyes open for the herons, egrets, ospreys and many other animals that make their home in this reclaimed natural space.
Tennis enthusiasts will enjoy Lantana's courts, located in the town's Recreation Center, and golf aficionados will appreciate the convenience of more than a dozen course within a few miles. The city hosts a regular schedule of events for its 10,500 residents, including movies at the beach, concerts in the park, a "haunted" nature preserve tour on Halloween, and a winter parade. There's always something to do in Lantana!
Homes in this welcoming communities run the gamut, from sprawling estates to single-family residences in friendly neighborhoods, condos overlooking the water to custom-built homes with ocean views. Whatever you're looking for, you'll find it in historic, picturesque Lantana.
